Officers Find Formalined Food in Market
JAKARTA (SINDO) – The rumor of formalined food in markets in Jakarta turns out to be true. Officers from the Livestock and Fishery Service Office of DKI Jakarta had found formalin in samples of fish and chicken meat sold by vendors. It was discovered when officers conducted an unexpected inspection at Pasar Rumput, South Jakarta. In that inspection, officers sampled 14 fishes and meat from six different vendors. Four of the samples were positive for formalin in low concentration; positive samples were from two fresh fishes, a chicken carcass, and chicken intestines.
Head of the Business, Marketing, and Quality Control Suboffice from PPK Office of DKI Jakarta, Enny Pudjiwati, said the four positive samples were tested using a test that could measure formalin levels in food. She said the four positive samples were from four different vendors. “We found samples from two fishes, a batch of chicken intestine, and a chicken carcass containing formalin when we collected 14 samples,” she said to SINDO.
Now, evidences and vendors have been taken to the Livestock Service Office for further investigation. To prevent such a case from happening again, the Livestock and Fishery Service Office DKI Jakarta will conduct routine inspection. Meanwhile Head of the Industry and Trade Office, Ade Suhartono, promised to increase monitoring on all products sold in markets. (edy gustan)
