Training of Trainer of AI Communication Workshop in Bali

Bali is both an island and a province in Indonesia. Majority of the people adopt the Hindu religion and have a homogenous and well-maintained culture. In the world, Bali is a famous tourist site with its uniqueness and cultural art.
When avian influenza struck Indonesia in 2003 and had spread to most parts of Indonesia, Bali was also on of the infected areas. Even in 2007 bird flu had claimed human lives in Bali. As an area that is very dependant on tourism, human cases of bird flu is a high concern because it could cause bad impact on tourism in Bali.

Click to see real sizeThe National Avian Influenza Epidemiology Workshop has been held on Aryaduta Jakarta Hotel on Monday until Friday, February 4 to 8, 2008. This event was collaboration between the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Colorado State University (CSU), Association for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (AVEPM), Directorate of Animal Health – Directorate General of Livestock – Ministry of Agriculture from the Republic of Indonesia, and Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies (CIVAS).

Avian Influenza Epidemiology Training Workshop in Indonesia

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Colorado State University, Ministry of Agriculture Republic of Indonesia, Association for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (AVEPM) and Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies (CIVAS) held a series (6 sessions) of Avian Influenza Epidemiology Training Workshop in Indonesia.
The training workshop was designed to demonstrate to animal health staff members the role of international regulations and veterinary epidemiology in national animal health programs and the protection of human and animal populations from diseases. Beside that, the workshop was also to prepare animal health government and private officers and veterinarians in conducting animal disease investigation which includes collection of samples, probing potential sources of disease introduction, collecting records and data that are relevant to disease investigation, and use of the appropriate preventive and control measures.

Geospatial Technologies in Epidemiology and Incident Management Training

Geospatial Technologies in Epidemiology and Incident Management TrainingThe training on “Geospatial Technologies in Epidemiology and Incident Management” was a preliminary step for the Bird Flu Control Pilot Project in Tangerang which was initiated by the National Committee for Avian Influenza Control and Influenza Pandemic Preparedness (KOMNAS FBPI) in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Secretariat of Tangerang Pilot Project.
Training objectives were: 1) to prepare all staff in the Agriculture Office and Health Office so they could work together in collecting information and base data of Tangerang city for the Bird Flu Control Pilot Project, 2) to train field staffs or officers into skillful officers who could collect data or coordinates using the Global Positioning System (GPS) Receiver, 3) to train data entry staffs or officers into skillful officers who could process data from field and display it spatially so it could be informative data, and 4) to prepare skillful field officers and staffs for the Base Line Survey in Tangerang city.

Poultry Health management Training

Animal health is the major item which should be considered when developing a livestock business. This matter is closely related with the emerging of various diseases in livestock. Livestock business profile in the primary sector shows that a poultry business provides better business opportunity as long as the husbandry management includes animal health management in accordance with the current valid procedures and regulations. In other words, if the animal health management in livestock is done optimally, then the emerging of various diseases can be reduced as much as possible.

Risk Analysis Training

Risk analysis trainingEntering the global free trade era, OIE as a world animal health organization no longer allows zero risk policies on importation of animal and animal products into a country. Risk analysis is a method developed to assess the risks of animal and animal product importation. This risk analysis is very needed by countries which very much depend on importation. With the basis that professional and skillful risk analyzers will be needed in global free trade, therefore CIVAS in collaboration with the Veterinary Public Health Division of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bogor Agricultural University conducted a training on Risk Analysis of Animal and Animal Product Importation.

Vaccination and Sampling Method Training for Avian Influenza DiagnosisTo support the Field Trial Vaccination program in Sukabumi district which is a collaboration between Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies (CIVAS) and Wageningen International, on June 21st – 22nd, 2006 a “Vaccination and Sampling Method Training for Avian Influenza Diagnosis was held. The objectives of this training was to provide reviews on various information, to provide the right knowledge and practical skills for conducting vaccination and sample collecting in the field which is all in preparations for the vaccination and sampling program for Avian Influenza diagnosis. The training which lasted for two days was held at Cinagara Agribusiness Education and Training Office of Animal Husbandry and Health, Cinagara – Bogor. Twenty three (23) participants attended this training. The training participants were representatives from the District Livestock Services Office of Sukabumi, Veterinary Public Health and Animal Disease Investigation Laboratory (Cikole – Lembang), PT. Medion and CIVAS.  

Veterinary Epidemiology Training

The Veterinary Epidemiology Training was held by the Center for Indonesian Veterinary Analytical Studies (CIVAS) in collaboration with the Directorate of Animal Health and Directorate of Veterinary Public Health, Directorate General of Livestock, Republic of Indonesia. The training which lasted for 3 days was held at Kompleks Bumi, PMPSDMP (Pusat Manajemen Pengembangan Sumber Daya Manusia Pertanian), Ciawi – Bogor, from 29th until the 31st of May 2006.
