Boyolali Cattle Treated for Anthrax Prevention
Boyolali - All cattle owned by citizens of Dukuh Tangkisan, Karangmojo village, Klego subdistrict, Boyolali district, Central Java were subjected to 4-step penicillin (antibiotic) treatment to eliminate any anthrax bacteria.
“Penicillin is injected to cattle in Dukuh Tangkisan, now it has reached the 3rd dosage. The fourth will be given on Monday (7/3/2011). Afterwards then the cattle will be vaccinated,” said Head of the Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health Division of the Livestock and Fishery Service Office of Boyolali, Baroto, on Thursday (3/3/2011).
The service office is also taking preventive measures by spraying privately owned cattle pens adjacent to the anthrax case site in Tangkisan with disinfectant. “Cattle pens and the surrounding area are sprayed with formalin. This will kill any remaining anthrax bacteria,” Baroto said.
Head of the Boyolali Livestock and Fishery Service Office, Dwi Priyatmoko, said [antibiotic] treatment of cattle in Dukuh Tangkisan, Klego, will end on Monday (7/3). A week after that then the animals could be vaccinated.

“Vaccination efforts to prevent anthrax will be applied to all animals in the six subdisticts, starting from 14 February to 14 April 2011,” said Dwi Priyatmoko. But, especially for Karangmojo village, vaccination will be applied after antibiotic treatment is given.
