BATANGHARI –Cases of rabies are still found in Batanghari District in 2015. Records from Batanghari Livestock and Fisheries Services report 6 rabies cases in animals (dogs and cat).
LIMBOTO– About 106 cattle owned by residents in Bongomeme subdistrict, Gorontalo district, suddenly died. The incident started in early December.
Sengkang – Rabies incidences in Wajo District is still high. Data from Wajo District Health Services recorded 144 cases of human rabies exposure in 2015 with 3 fatalities. Ibrahim, Rabies Program Manager of Wajo District Health Services confirmed these incidences.
He explained that poor public awareness is one factor contributing to the high number of rabies incidences. Many people still disregard dog bites.
SUKOHARJO –Residents of Sukoharjo District are advised to be aware of Avian Influenza (AI). Thousands of quails owned by citizens in Sonorejo administrative village, Sukoharjo subdistrict,have already been infected by the H5N1 AI virus.
Pare-Pare– To prevent high mortality in cattle, the Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock and Marine Services of Parepare city initiated a Brucellosis awareness public movement in Bacukiki subdistrict. Brucellosis is a reproductive disease in cattle. It is also known as Bang’s disease or Malta fever. Economic consequences of Brucellosis infection are serious despite its low mortality.
Jakarta – Hundreds of pigeons housed on the banks of Old Ciliwung River in Central Jakarta was secured from neighborhoods. The measure was taken to prevent possible spread of Avian Influenza in the neighborhoods.
Lampung – Zoonotic diseases in Lampung must be quickly eradicated by all parties. Not only Lampung Province Livestock and Animal Health Services, but also other government services and institutions which are part of Lampung Province Zoonoses Control Commission.
Bakauheni – Dozens of chicken in Bakauheni, South Lampung District suddenly died in the past week. Clinical signs include blue discoloration of the comb, similar to signs of bird flu (Avian Influenza).
Cattle farmer Teguh Boediyana calls for a judicial review of the materials in Law No. 41 Year 2014 on Animal Husbandry and Health. Boediyana feels farmers are disadvantaged by Articles 36C line (1) and (3), 36D line (1) and 36E line (1) of the Law which defines the requirements for eligible exporting countries or zones in a country for ruminants (cattle, sheep, etc.).
Kupang–People are still dying from rabid dog bites in East Nusa Tenggara Province. Head of East Nusa Tenggara Province Livestock Services, Danny Suhadi on Tuesday (3/11) revealed that between 2006 and 2014,257 people have lost their lives to rabies and dog bite incidences has reached 50,912 cases.
The Regional Regulation on Animal Health, Veterinary Public Health and Animal Welfare, which was legalized by Solo’s Regional Parliament on Monday (26/10), in the end did not include an article on dog meat trade monitoring. Instead, regulations on dog meat trade will be published through the Mayor’s Decree (Perwali).
East Lampung – Male Sumatran rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis), Harapan, finally returns home to Indonesia. After 60 hours of travel from Cincinnati Zoo in the United States, Harapan arrives at the rhinoceros conservation center in Way Kambas National Park.
