In the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) meeting, the Ministry of Agriculture revealed it has published the Minister of Agriculture Decree No. 4026/Kpts./OT.140/3/2013 on Strategic Infectious Animal Diseases. This decree, said Minister of Agriculture Suswono, was made to accelerate the eradication of zoonotic diseases.

“Our aim for 2020 is to free Indonesia from rabies and [avian] influenza and in 2025 free from zoonoses. Unfortunately, rabies and anthrax in the last 10 years is still a threat in several provinces such as West Java, DKI Jakarta, Central Java, Sulawesi, and Nusa Tenggara,” he said on Wednesday (20/8/2014) in Shangrila Hotel, Jakarta, during a GHSA press conference.

The decree lists 25 animal diseases which could cause significant economic loss, public unrest and high mortality:

3. Salmonellosis
4. Brucellosis (Brucella abortus)
5. Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza dan Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza
6. Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome
7. Helminthiasis
8. Haemorrhagic Septicaemia / Septicaemia Epizootica
9. Nipah Virus Encephalitis
10. Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis
11. Bovine Tuberculosis
12. Leptospirosis
13. Brucellosis (Brucella suis)
14. Jembrana disease
15. Surra
16. Paratuberculosis
17. Toxoplasmosis
18. Classical Swine Fever (CSF)
19. Swine Influenza Novel (H1N1)
20. Campylobacteriosis
21. Cysticercosis
22. Q Fever
