Hundreds of Ducks in Grobogan Died from Avian Influenza
Tuesday, 30 June 2015
Grobogan – Avian Influenza (AI) has again become a cause of concern. The disease emerged in Mrisi village in Tanggungharjo subdistrict several days ago. The disease killed 225 ducks.
Head of Grobogan Livestock and Fisheries Services, Riyanto, through Head of the Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health Division, Nur Ahmad Wardiyanto said citizens reported sudden death in ducks in Mrisi village. Further investigation confirmed the ducks were infected with AI.
This is the first AI case in 2015. “The dead ducks were from a flock of 400 owned by a local farmer. We have destroyed all infected birds,” he said.
To prevent AI from spreading, several measures were taken by the government, i.e. public awareness on AI to all public elements and distribution of vaccines and disinfectant free of charge for prevention. “We also strongly advise to destroy or burn dead birds that died from AI. This at least helps prevent the disease from spread any further,” he said. (Dani Agus / Suwoko)
