The vaccine was provided by West Sumatra Provincial Government. No cost was charged. “We also culled around 2,000 stray dogs with the involvement of animal health officers and local residents,” said Afdhal.

Afdhal added the number of rabies cases in Agam District increases every year. In 2011 there were 18 cases, in 2012 there were 22 cases and the number of cases in 2013 was 24 cases. To reduce the number of rabies cases, the office is collaborating with the Hog Hunting Sport Association (Porbi) of Agam District to increase member awareness and participation in vaccinating their dogs. Also, videos on the impact of rabies are played in public places, leaflets are disseminated, etc.
